Summary of ASEAN

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) was created on 8th August 1967 with five countries members: Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.   ASEAN was later joined by Brunei (1984), Vietnam (1995), Laos and Burma (1997) and Cambodia (1999). Today, ASEAN comprised of 10 member countries above and East Timor as an observer. ASEAN was created to forge cooperation in the economic, social, cultural, technical, educational and other fields among these regional countries.
Additionally, the promotion of regional peace and stability through abiding respect for justice and the rule of law and adherence to the principles of the United Nations Charter are also the reasons for established ASEAN. Before ASEAN was created, there were certain regional disputes among countries in South-East Asian nations such as the Philippines vs Malaysia and Malaysia vs Indonesia. Thailand is the one that helped broker reconciliation to these countries. Thailand minister, Mr. Thanat Khoman, has recalled all these three disputers to negotiate with each other at a beach resort in Thailand and initiated the formation of such an organization known as ASEAN with the goal to contain all those eventual disputes and forge a lasting peace to this SE Asian region as a whole. Coincidently, Singapore has sent its foreign minister to join the newly set-up ASEAN. Its request was accepted. With the newly introduced ASEAN Charter and the set-up of the existing mechanism to prevent and contain the disputes, this region has seen the regional conflicts flare- up become to a much less extent nowadays.
The development and prosperity of ASEAN countries would be very beneficial whilst no disputes aroused within the region. Meanwhile, these countries need a mutual assistance in shaping their common defence interest that act against any attempt from outside forces to influence and divide up and control the ASEAN community. Those countries have determined to make ASEAN to become a potentially rich region, rich in history, in spiritual as well as material resources and indeed, for the whole ancient continent of Asia. In 1976, there is a treaty of amity among ASEAN countries and in 1995 there is another treaty on the Southeast Asia Nuclear Weapon Free. From these two treaties, we can assume that ASEAN has gradually entered into several formal and legally-binding instruments.

Advantages and Disadvantages of using Computer

In our modern days, computer plays an important role in our daily life. Most people around the world are now using computer in their daily life. Similarly to my daily life, I am now using with personal computer, mobile computers, mobile devices and game consoles. The computers have been improved a lot because the development of technology. In addition, it can operate much faster than before. Based from Discovering Computers 2011, people use computers everywhere such as at work, at school and at home(Discovering computers 2011, 2011). Some people believe that computers are really usefule  for them while others oppose with this idea. In my opinion, using computers have both pros and cons with I will describe below.
To begin with the positive point, firstly, computer can process data in a high speed as it can process billions or trillions of operations in one second which is really fast. Storage is another advantage of using computer. In this way, computers can store  datas in a huge amount and it is very flexible to process these datas at anytime we want. Lots of people around the world are very happy with the invention of more  and more data storage in computers. Reliable is the other advantage of using computers. According to Discovering Computers 2011, “The electronic components in modern computers are dependable and reliable because they rarely break or fail” (Shelly and Vermaat, 2011). Finally, computer is very crucial in our communication these days.  Not only does it help to communicate between people by message or email, but it also can communicate among itself as well. Due to all these reasons, we could see that computers having a lo of positive impacts to our daily life.
Moving onto the negative points, first, computer users usually have a health problems when they use computers excessively. Normally, they got problems with their eyes, hands, wrists, elbows, neck, and back. Moreover, excessive usage on computers sometimes could lead the users to have a poor communication with other people as long as they usually sepnd most of their time in front of the computers and do not have much free time to communicate face to face. Violation of privacy is another issues of using computers. As a matter of fact, I have known some of my friends that their photos have been stolen by others in facebook and later on, they could saw their photos on the internet with very bad editing. Therefore, tt is good to hide your identification from strangers as something bad could happen very easily on the internet nowadays. Additionally, computers have an impact on labor force. Computers have produced a lot of jobs into the industry world; however, there are a lot people are unemployment now since the computers have replaced them. Last but not least, environment problems is partly created by the computers too. For example, the waste that coming from old computers have polluted the land while they can release toxic matrials and potentially dangerous level of lead, mercury, and flame retardants (Shelly and Vermaat, 2011).
In conclusion, people should manage to use the computers wisely in order to protect themselves from potential problems that caused by excessive computer using. If they do not use it wisely, they could meet a lot of problems now or in the near future created by the computers. Personally, I usually protect myself from potential problems which caused by computer usage.  Commonly, I do not spend much time with the computers by trying to go offline as much as I can and only use the computers for my study, research and reading some news.
